Effect of different treatments of organic fertilizers on growth characteristics and yield of Cassia angustifolia Vahl.

Abstract

Background & aim: In sustainable agriculture, organic fertilizers are considered as important alternatives for chemical ones and are of great importance in organic producing of medicinal plants. This study was conducted to study the effects of organic fertilizers on <em>Cassia angustifolia</em> Vahl in dry and subtropical climate. Experimental: This study was carried out in Jiroft region, Kerman (Iran), at 2009-2010 in a randomized complete block design with three replications and thirteen fertilizer treatments. Results & discussion: The results of analysis of variance showed that treatments had significant effects on plant height, leaf width, number of branches, fresh weight of leaves, dry weight of leaves, fresh weight of shoot and dry weight of shoot (<em>p</em>pIndustrial and practical recommendations: In environmental conditions of the studied region, the integrated application of organic fertilizers containing nitrogen can improve quantitative yield of <em>Cassia angustifolia</em> Vahl. Therefore application of organic fertilizers can improve sustainable agriculture and organic production of medicinal plants in addition to decrease of chemical fertilizers application.
