A Study of Family Effect on Political Socialization (A Case Study of Tehran University Students)

Abstract

Political socialization is the process by which the transition of political <br />cultures takes place from one generation to another.<br />In the other words political socialization is continuous in whole of life, <br />in which political personality of people is formed. Many factors affect <br />people political socialization that some of them are; Family, Mass Media, <br />School and Peer Groups. This research represents family effect and family<br />relationship type on political socialization of Tehran university students.<br />However, other effects have been controlled. A sample size of 278 has been<br />selected from 16373 population. <br />The research method is survey and data collection technique is<br />questionnaire. The results are as follow: <br />1. There is an inverse relationship between family education and<br />student's political participation rate. <br />2. There is a direct relationship between family education and student's<br />political trust rate. <br />3. There is a direct relationship between family political affair and<br />student's political interest rate. <br />4. There is a direct relationship between family political affair rate and<br />student's political efficiency rate. <br />5. There is a direct relationship between family religiosity and student's<br />political trust rate. <br />6. There is an inverse relationship between family's S.E.S and student's<br />political interest rate. <br />7. There is a direct relationship between family's S.E.S and student's <br />political trust rate.<br />According to research results, three effective variables in student's <br />political socialization are respectively important: Peer group, Mass media &<br />Family.
