Qualitative zoning river Karun, Dez and Karkheh using water quality indices

Abstract

Rivers are discussed as sources of water supply for various uses including agriculture, industry and<br />drinking. Thus, monitoring the quality of these resources due to the recent drought and urban and rural<br />development is one of the important tasks in the field of environmental management. In this study,<br />nine stations sampled seasonally the Karoon river, Dez, Karkheh in a one-year period from October<br />2010 to September 2011 was conducted to coincide with cold and warm seasons. Parameters such as<br />temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, pH, turbidity, BOD and COD concentration of anions<br />and cations with original and microbial parameters were measured. The study used data from the<br />National Quality Indicators NSFWQI, Pollution Control Commission of India, the Ion ratios and<br />Wilcox index. Analysis of parameters on the basis NSFWQI index showed that In the second half of<br />the season coincides with the period of high rainfall is high than 50, indicating that quality is bad.<br />Classification of river water quality standards of the Central Pollution Control Commission of India<br />is also roughly consistent with the results of NSFWQI. The results showed that the maximum ion<br />concentration of cation ions sodium –magnesium and chloride anion is the minimum concentration of<br />ions. The classification was measured according to Wilcox index, the resulting quality of the water<br />was used for irrigation and drainage for salinity control in the management of land.
