PECTORALIS, LATISSIMUS DORSI, AND TERES MAJOR MUSCLES

Abstract

The pectoralis major is a complex muscle with three sternal, clavicular and abdominal origins. Recently the prevalence of the traumatic injury of this muscle has been increased in the young athletes. Imaging plays an important role in determining the location and extends of the injury, which is crucial for the treatment planning. The latissimus dorsi and teres major may also get involved in a traumatic sprain. If the trauma is remote, this type of muscle injury may present as a chest wall mass or shoulder pain and mislead the diagnosis and again the imaging modalities, specially MRI, are important to make an accurate diagnosis. In the current presentation we focus on the imaging anatomy and also different type and classification of the chest wall muscle injury including the pectoralis major, the Lattisimus dorsi and the Teres major
